About

CSV Viewer & Editor

Drop a CSV, an Excel workbook or a JSON list and it opens as a table you can scroll, search and edit like a spreadsheet. The separator and the characters the file was saved in are found for you, so ş, ğ and ı come out right instead of as ÅŸ or þ, and letters already garbled that way are put back with one click.

What it does

  • Reads CSV and TSV, .xlsx workbooks (sheets, dates, the 1900 leap-year bug) and JSON as objects, arrays or JSON Lines.
  • Finds the separator and the encoding (UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1254, 1252, 1250 or 1251), and repairs garbled letters in place.
  • Edits a cell on a double-click with fifty steps of undo; sorts, searches, and summarises any column.
  • Tidies: trims spaces, removes empty rows, empty columns and duplicate rows, finds and replaces, and changes a column’s case.
  • Writes a column of dates one way, and turns amounts like 1.234,50 or ₺1,234.50 into plain numbers, leaving codes like 007 alone.
  • Maps the file’s columns onto the ones you want, matched by name in English or Turkish, and keeps the mapping for the next file.
  • Checks what each column should hold (a number, a date, an email address) and lists every cell that does not fit.
  • Saves as CSV that Excel opens right, as .xlsx with a bold frozen header, or as JSON.

How to use it

  1. Drop the file on the window.
  2. Check the separator and the characters if anything looks wrong; both can be changed.
  3. Tidy the table, and edit any cell by hand.
  4. Map and check the columns if the file has to fit a template.
  5. Save as CSV, .xlsx or JSON.

What it does not do

  • Formulas, charts, pivot tables or several sheets edited at once: that is a spreadsheet, not a cleaner.
  • .xls files: a format Excel itself has left behind; save the file as .xlsx in Excel first.
  • Files over 50 MB: the whole table is held in memory so that it can be edited.
  • Phone numbers as a checked kind: what is valid depends on the country, and a wrong “no” is worse than no check.
  • Fixing values for you: the tool says what does not fit and takes you to it, but it does not write into your data.

Questions

Why does Excel show ÅŸ instead of ş?

The file is UTF-8 and Excel read it as Windows-1252, or the other way round. Open it here: the encoding is guessed from the letters, the garbled ones are repaired, and saving with the UTF-8 mark makes Excel read it right.

Why did Excel put everything in one column?

The separator does not match your region’s. Excel splits at a semicolon in Turkey and much of Europe and at a comma in the US and the UK; save here with the separator your region uses.

Is my mapping saved?

Yes, under a name and in this browser only: the column names, the kinds and the checks, never the rows.

Is a 100,000-row file all right?

Yes. A 4 MB file of 100,000 rows opens in about a fifth of a second, and only the rows on screen are drawn, so scrolling stays smooth.

Everything here runs in your browser. Nothing you type, paste or open is uploaded, and there is no account and no queue. How that works.

For one job

  • CSV to JSON: A CSV or Excel file as JSON, each column given one type.
  • CSV to Excel: A CSV as an .xlsx workbook, numbers and dates as Excel values.
  • Excel to CSV: One sheet of an .xlsx workbook saved as CSV, in the separator you need.
  • JSON to CSV: A JSON list of records as a CSV table, nested keys as columns.

More in Converters

  • Unit Converter: Convert length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, data size and nine more quantities, both ways, with the formula.
  • Base64 Encode & Decode: Encode text or files to Base64 and decode it back: URL-safe, MIME line breaks, data URIs, and images you can preview.
