Case Converter
Type or paste text and choose a case: sentence case, UPPER, lower, Title Case by the style guide you write for, or the code cases, camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case, one identifier a line. Brands and acronyms are left as typed, and the Turkish i and İ are handled when you ask.
What it does
- For prose: sentence case, lower case, UPPER CASE, Capitalized Case, aLtErNaTiNg and iNVERSE case.
- Title Case by Chicago, AP, APA or MLA: the small words lower, the first word and the word after a colon capitalised.
- Hyphenated words by each style’s own rule, and brands and acronyms such as iPhone and NASA kept as they are.
- For code: camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, CONSTANT_CASE, kebab-case, Train-Case, dot.case, path/case, and a URL slug: Çalışma Günü becomes calisma-gunu.
- A pasted column converts row by row, and XMLHttpRequest splits into XML, Http and Request.
- Turkish and Azerbaijani letters when switched on: i becomes İ, and I becomes ı.
- Every case at once, each with its own Copy; download; Use as text to keep going, with undo.
- Characters, words and lines counted.
How to use it
- Paste the text, or one identifier a line for code.
- Pick a case, and a style guide for a title.
- Copy the result, download it, or put it back in the box with Use as text.
What it does not do
- Fancy Unicode text (bold, italic, upside down): a different job, and screen readers spell those letters out one at a time.
- Bluebook, AMA, NYT and Wikipedia title styles: the four here cover most of what people write.
- A list of your own words to keep: a word with a capital inside it, like iPhone, is already kept as typed.
Questions
Which words stay lower case in Title Case?
It depends on the style. AP capitalises any word of four letters or more, so With and From take a capital; Chicago keeps prepositions lower whatever their length. All four capitalise the first word and the word after a colon.
Why is iPhone not turned into Iphone?
A word with a capital inside it is taken for a brand or an acronym and left alone.
How does XMLHttpRequest become snake_case?
It is split where the capitals change, into XML, Http and Request, so it becomes xml_http_request.
What does the Turkish switch change?
Upper case i becomes İ and lower case I becomes ı, as Turkish and Azerbaijani spell them. Without it, izmir in capitals comes out IZMIR instead of İZMİR.
