Watermark PDF

Drop a PDF, type a word or choose a logo, and it is drawn over a preview of the page: across the middle, along the page’s own diagonal, at an edge, or repeated over the whole sheet. Size and angle are measured from each page, so a landscape sheet among portrait ones is marked to fit. Every copy is read back by a second PDF reader.

What it does

  • A text in sans, serif or mono, bold or not, in any colour; or a picture: PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, SVG, BMP or AVIF.
  • Corner to corner along each page’s own diagonal, level, or at any angle between -90 and 90 degrees.
  • At the centre, at any of eight edges and corners, or repeated across the page in staggered rows.
  • Size as a share of what fits the page, so one setting suits A4, Letter and a slide in one file.
  • Opacity from 5 to 100 per cent, with a PNG’s own see-through parts kept.
  • Only the pages you name, on several files at once, saved as a zip.
  • Marked in the file as a watermark and not as content, so a screen reader does not read it out on every page.
  • Checks every copy in pdf.js, Firefox’s reader: the mark must be on each page where it was put.

How to use it

  1. Drop one or more PDFs on the window.
  2. Choose Text or Picture, and type the words or pick the file.
  3. Set the place, the direction, the size and the opacity; the page, a close-up of the mark and Look closer show it.
  4. Download the PDF, or a zip of them all.

What it does not do

  • A watermark nobody can remove: it is drawn into each page and a PDF editor can take it out again, so it marks a copy and does not protect one.
  • A mark under the page’s content: a scan or a slide is one picture that would hide it, where a see-through mark over the page always shows.
  • Turning the pages into pictures to burn the mark in: that throws the text away, so nothing could be searched, copied or read aloud.

Questions

Can the watermark be removed afterwards?

By someone with a PDF editor, yes. It is part of each page’s drawing, so it prints and every reader shows it, but it is a mark and not a lock. To keep people out of a file, give it a password to open.

How do I put DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL diagonally across every page?

Type the word, leave the place on Centre of the page and the direction on Corner to corner. The angle is taken from each page’s shape, so the word runs from the lower left corner to the upper right on portrait and landscape pages alike.

Can I use my logo?

Yes: choose Picture and pick a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, SVG, BMP or AVIF. A PNG keeps its see-through background. A picture more than 2,400 pixels on its longest side goes in at that size, still sharp across a whole page.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The PDF and the picture are opened and written in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.
