Working Days Calculator

Pick two dates and read how many working days lie between them, the first and the last both counted, as Monday to Friday is a working week of five days and as Excel’s NETWORKDAYS counts. Turn off the days that are your weekend, paste your holidays, and the count follows. Add or subtract answers the other question: the date ten working days from now.

What it does

  • Matches Excel: 1 October 2012 to 1 March 2013 is 110 working days, and 107 with three holidays, as Microsoft’s own examples give.
  • Any weekend: Friday and Saturday, Sunday alone or a six-day week, by turning each day on or off.
  • A holiday on a day already off is not taken away twice, and the count says how many holidays it used.
  • Holidays pasted one a line or separated by commas, as 2026-12-25, 25.12.2026 or 12/25/2026.
  • A date that could be read two ways, such as 07/04/2026 or 07/04/26, is counted as not understood rather than guessed.
  • Add or subtract finds the date that many working days away, as Excel’s WORKDAY does: 151 from 1 October 2008 is 30 April 2009.
  • How many of each weekday the range holds, for counting the Mondays in a quarter.

How to use it

  1. Pick the first and the last date.
  2. Turn off the days that are not worked, if your weekend is not Saturday and Sunday.
  3. Paste the holidays, one a line.
  4. Read the working days beside “that count”, and untick Count the last day as well if the end date is not worked.

What it does not do

  • Half days and hours: a day here is worked or not, so a half-day Christmas Eve is either a holiday or a full day.
  • Shifts that rotate, such as four on and four off: the weekend is the same days every week.

Questions

Does it count the start date and the end date?

Both, on this page: Monday to Friday of one week is five working days, as Excel’s NETWORKDAYS gives. Untick Count the last day as well for four, the days from one date to the other, which is how a deadline counts them.

How many working days are there in 2026?

261 from Monday to Friday before holidays: 365 days less 104 weekend days. Paste your country’s public holidays to take those out too; nine on weekdays would leave 252.

What if the start date is a weekend or a holiday?

In a count it is simply not one of the working days. Adding working days starts from the next day, so one working day after a Saturday, or after a Friday, is the Monday.

Can it count a Friday and Saturday weekend?

Yes. Turn Friday off and Sunday on under Days that count, and the choice is kept for next time. 2026 has 261 working days that way too, because its one day over 52 weeks is a Thursday.
